The Yoruba, under the able guardianship of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, of the Action Group political party, were the Fathers and Mothers of Nigeria Independence. The Yoruba suffered the worst form of human degradation in the History of the world. They constituted the largest single captives for transportation to America during the slave trade. Following independence Nigeria became a pariah state. Today, 51 years after independence Nigeria has yet to shake off the images of all things that no nation state aspires to be. This Article discusses the issues that impact adversely on Nigeria, issues that are likely to collapse the Federation of Nigeria, unless appropriate corrective measures are put in place forthwith.
