Nigeria is evil but somehow, the ALMIGHTY GOD has steadfastly declined the temptation to forsake her.
The name Nigeria evokes a mix and blend of contradictions in the minds of
non-Nigerians and perhaps in the minds of indigenous Nigerians
• Grinding
poverty in the midst of incalculable national wealth
• Anarchy and extra
judicial killings in the midst of formidable state security apparatus
• Moral
decadence in the midst of Christian and Islamic Faiths
• Political thuggery
in the midst of written and unwritten constitutions
• Religious
fundamentalists on a rampage in the midst of African Charter on People’s Rights,
and Western Educational system
• University students’ involvement in
occultism and disappearance without trace of young women, presumed beheaded by
their captors in pursuit of wealth
• Money laundering by those in the
corridors of power in the face of universal condemnation of the practice
•
Embezzlement of public funds by those in the corridors of power in the midst of
statutory and other constitutional prohibitions
• Mushrooming of Judgment
procurement cartels across the States in the midst of Judicial Oath and Code of
Conduct applicable to Public Officers
• Miscarriages of Justices in the midst
of Rules and Regulations put in place to check misfeasance and malfeasance in by
judicial office holders
To summarise, Nigeria is about:1.
Negativity born of a national idiosyncrasy to character
assassinate victims of Federal or State organized oppression of those who do not
toe political party line
2. Indifference on the parts of the
three arms of State and their colleagues in quangos and other state-sponsored
agencies, for the sufferings that the masses are compelled to undergo every
day
3. Greediness on the parts of the three arms of State, quangos and other state sponsored bodies occasioning the exclusion of the masses to have a share in the wealth of the country
4. Environment of hostility and inhospitality, designed to keep the international community at a distance so that the wrongdoings of those in the corridors of power at Federal and State levels are hidden from view
5. Religious fundamentalism that sets out to impose its doctrines on the masses
6. Incestuous relationship as between the Presidency, Legislature and Judiciary occasioning the imposition of unqualified persons to hold power in quangos, government agencies, and other statutory bodies in the South East, South West, and South South
7. Abnegation of responsibilities owed to citizens by the three arms of the Federal Government and State Governments
Deficiencies in the Nigerian culture
The shortages in the
Nigerian culture abound in profusion. The following deficiencies are at the
lower end of the scale:
A. Derivation of pleasure at the sufferings of other Nigerians – schadenfreude mindset
B. Accumulation of rotten wealth by public officers and servants who are already rich enough to own 3 or 4 commercial banks – kleptomania
C. Misfeasance and malfeasance by public office holders
D. Cannibalism by those in pursuit of political power and riches – misanthropes
E. Self-centredness, ego-tripping, and a holier-than-thou colonial mindset
F. Paucity of education and training – Only about 27 million Nigerians out of an estimated 150 million Nigerians, are educated up to secondary school level – the quality of education in Nigeria is appallingly low
G. Lethargic and inactive but Nigerians can moan for the Universe
H. Acceptance of fait accompli
I. Total disrespect of the Laws of the Federation
CONCLUSION
Many African countries are suffering because
of Nigeria’s dubious and doubtful profile.
In Europe, it is assumed that 4 out of every 5 Black persons found on that Continent must be Nigerians. Consequently, such Black persons are treated as scroungers, thieves, and vagabonds. It is a very sad picture.
As an environment Nigeria is a catalogue of enigmatic problems. The country’s profile cannot be erased or blotted out because an environment is more pervasive than the people who are living in such an environment.
